 Important Update

Our journey as a formal 501(c)(3) rescue has come to an end as of 12/31/2024. I would like to share some information about the changes in our operation and where we are on this.

-We have closed intake on new rescues but will always be available for our adopters if they need help and our adoptees should they need to return.

-We have two dogs (Chevy and Wonky) we still need adopters for. The sanctuary dogs will stay with us.

-We will never be able to thank our donors/adopters/fosters/volunteers over the many years enough, and hope the support we were given is now given to other Great Pyrenees rescues. That is what we hope to do as well as we move forward.

-We will be updating records and contacting adopters we haven't heard from for a while to be sure they are aware that we are still committed to the dogs we have placed. If you are an adopter or know one of our adopters we haven't heard from please send us an update.

Thank you to everyone who loves these special dogs and follow our page. Please share Chevy and Wonky to help them find their forever home.

Great Pyrenees Rescue of Central Illinois will always be available to assist with the dogs adopted from our program. Should an adopter or adoptee need help, please contact gprci.info@gmail.com.

About The Breed

Great Pyrenees were originally bred to be livestock guardian dogs (LGDs) and are often still used for this purpose today. Great Pyrenees can make wonderful house pets as well though, but it is important to thoroughly research this breed as they have some unique and sometimes challenging characteristics. Learning as much as you can prior to owning a Pyr will help you decide whether this breed would be a good fit for your situation as well as make the transition into your home as smooth as possible.
