Fostering

Fostering is a tremendous help to GPRCI, but more importantly, the dogs. When we can get a rescue Pyr into a foster home, we are able to get to know the dog better and prepare the dog for a new home, resulting in a better match for a forever home.

Foster homes are screened carefully and have to meet the basic requirements of an adopter, such as a fenced yard and other pets kept up-to-date on vaccinations and preventative care. We have potential foster homes fill out an application in order to gather basic information, which helps us choose the right dog to place in that foster home. Foster homes are meant to be a good experience for both the dog and the foster mom/dad/family.

Foster homes need to keep in mind that while we try to make the best matches, not everything is always known about a rescue dog upfront. If for some reason a rescue Pyr is not working out in a foster home, there is absolutely no obligation for the dog to stay, and it will be up to the foster home on whether or not they would like to try another dog.
